 “love these” 2010-08-22
By tim bradley
We had avent bottles with our first they were the bpa kind. i was a little afraid that I would hate these with the one little extra part but I love them! No leaks and they little ring is not a problem at all. Make sure you read the directions I am sure the people who have had leak problems didnt read the directions. You have to put the ring on the bottle first then screw on the top.

We have been using these bottles for 4 months now. No trouble with leaking, easy to clean, especially after I bought the avent brush. The baby doesn’t seem to fuss as much afterward either, though that is relative I am sure. They were recommended to me by my lactation consultant because they are supposed to be more like real nipples. I don’t know about that but I would recommend these to anyone. Just make sure you use with the right sized/flow nipples.

“These are the Avent bottles you want!” 2010-08-05

These are much better than the honey colored Avent bottles! Initially, I bought 10 of the honey colored Avent bottles to start my collection because I wasn’t aware of any differences. They are fine, however, I do experience a leak from time to time with them. I also feel like the outside of the bottle feels a little sticky for some reason. But these Avent bottles are perfect – no issues! No leaks and no sticky feel. I wish I had known about these and bought them from the beginning. I bought 4 of these from Amazon and although I still use the other ones (what else am I going to do with them?) I always reach for these first.

FYI – The little booklet that came with these says that you can get more adapter rings from Avent customer service, so I’m going to call them to see if I can get some of the rings for my honey colored bottles… Maybe that will help with the occasional leaks I experience with those bottles?

“Great and only bottles used for my twins!” 2010-08-03

These bottles have been perfect for both of my babies! Both babies were in the NICU using specific bottles and nipples in the NICU. However, once we came home, we transitioned to the Avent 4 ounce bottles then the 9 ounce bottles and the transition was perfect! Love the bottles. They do not leak and are easy to clean. Highly recommend.

 “No leaks this time!” 2010-05-03
By Serg E (NY, USA)
Like many other reviewers, I had those old ones that were great for a while. Then we changed them all for the BPA free version and they all leaked. We liked the bottles (others on the market are not even close), but we had to re-tighten the lid again and again as it would leak and leak. When I bought these bottles in question (the new version of BPA free) I was cautious. However, it does not leak ever, 100%. We have our bottles back!!! Buy it before they “improve” something else and they start leaking again 🙂

Philips Avent BPA Free Bottle, Dual Pack, 9 ounce
Avent 9 oz. PES Bottle Twin Pack (BPA Free)Unsettled and irritable behavior, known as fussing, is by far the most commonly known crying behavior in babies. Clinical studies show that the Avent bottle significantly reduces colic and fussing. As your baby feeds, the unique skirt on the Avent nipple flexes to allow air into the bottle instead of your baby’s tummy. Like natural breastfeeding, your baby controls the milk flow.  “Leak EVERYWHERE – what happened to the old generation Avent?” 2010-08-26
By P. Dean (Denver, CO USA)
These bottles are infuriating! I used Avent bottles and products with my first three children and never had a complaint. In fact, I used to recommend them to all of my friends. However, with all the hype about BPA, we decided to get rid of our old Avent plastic bottles and purchase the “new and improved” non-BPA ones. BIG MISTAKE! Something is really wrong with the venting system in these new bottles. They leak constantly all over everything and make a huge mess. Sometimes, I’ll get the lid on correctly and it won’t leak, but then it’s impossible to figure out what I did to get it on right. There seams to be some sort of silicone flap on the underside of the nipple. If this flap comes in perfect contact with the neck of the bottle as you are screwing on the cap, then it won’t leak. I still haven’t been able to get it to work correctly. Who needs such a headache with twins?

We have since switched to Evenflo Classic glass bottles. They are a fraction of the price, recyclable, super easy to clean, non-BPA, and sturdy. We haven’t had any leak issues with these, and that makes for peaceful midnight feedings with the babies.

Avent needs to go back to the drawing board. I still love their formula caddy and bottle warmer, though!

 “NOT SEALED!!!!” 2010-08-24
By rain
A few months before I bought this, I already bought 3 Avent teethers for my baby girl. When I got them, the package easily detaches and open. I just shrugged it off thinking that maybe it was damaged on its way here (manila). But when I bought 2 sets of this Avent bottles, I was really disappointed because it wasn’t even sealed. It just came with its box that has no plastic cover or sealer on it.It is a baby product and just like any other baby products, care must be given and this must be totally sealed to ensure that it is clean and has not been used.

“Well constructed bottle wide neck bottle, for a price.” 2010-08-21
By Francis E. Reyes (Denver, Colorado USA)
The bottles pictured here are the honey colored, polyether sulfone variety.

The wide mouth sold me to these bottles. We switched to these bottles from Evenflo Classic Glass Bottle 8 oz, 6-Pack and Breastmilk Bottle Set-8oz. These bottles were appropriate when our little one was breast feeding as they fit Medela Pump in Style Advanced Breast Pump with Shoulder Bag perfectly. However, when we stopped breast feeding and started forumla, it was very difficult to scoop formula into these bottles. In contrast the mouth of the Philips Avent BPA Free Bottle, Dual Pack, 9 ounce (being reviewed) is nearly 2 inches in diameter making it very easy to scoop formula into them whether it be on the road or early in the evening.

While many reviewers found this bottle to leak, I did not, even with Philips Avent Fast Flow Nipple, BPA-Free nipples I ordered separately. However, I can see how if put together quickly the bottles *could* leak. The nipples contain an overhanging lip, which if seated improperly onto the bottle, will fail to cause a seal with the bottle and leak. To circumvent this, I pull the nipple through the ring until it is well seated and then screw the ring/nipple onto the bottle. I have yet to have a single leak.

Price! The bottles are rather on the expensive side, even when available as a two-pack!. While I found the wide-neck to be excellent, a more frugal buyer may consider Dr. Brown’s BPA Free Polypropylene Natural Flow Wide Neck Bottle, 8 oz – 3-Pack. While one can speculate the reason behind the cost difference, the bottles being reviewed are made in Europe. Maybe it’s the ‘Philips’ brand name.

 “Twist the cap!” 2010-08-20
By amber lou
We decided on the Avent brand because we did not want to purchase bottles made in China- these are made in England. But after investing over $100 in Avent bottles, we come to find that they leak! However, if you untwist the cap and twist back on enough times the bottle will stop leaking. Unfortunately, this is a pain in the rear when you have to give a newborn a bottle every 2 hours! However frustrating, we will be sticking with this brand of bottle.

“Best bottles ever! – Avent worked on the leak issue and they are now leak free!” 2010-08-15
By I say
All these leak complaints are for the “old” bottles!

I had my first daughter in Germany and bought all the bottles there – not ever one leak. There was no extra ring so when I read all that I had no idea what everyone was talking about. Anyway, I then had Girl Number 2 and obviously needed new bottles. I bought them and there was that mysterious ring!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Weird! Alright! Whatever! Good Lord, now I know what you are all complaining about. But then I saw a different looking box in the store, more golden, and I was curious what the difference could be. I bought it…….no extra ring! And up to this day, not one single leak! I am expecting Number 3 and I will buy them again. They are just great bottles. My Babies don’t have any gas issues after eating, just a little burp that comes out super easy. And all my friend that used other brands and complained about colics etc. I recommended those bottles and after the first feeding with those they already had a way happier Baby.

I actually think that the leak bottles are off the market now. So everyone who is looking for the right bottle, go for it, there is nothing better you can get! I have their entire system (Bottle Warmer, Steam Sterilizer, Storage Containers – perfect for freezing meals later,…..) and I love all of it!
